According to the country's legislation, the snap elections should be one Sunday and from 30 to 45 days after the motion has been adopted, so the options are on June 11th or 18th. Opposition parties had blamed his Cabinet for being unable to carry out its program and pass important laws.

Kosovo's president has formally dissolved the country's parliament after lawmakers voted no-confidence in Prime Minister Isa Mustafa's coalition government.

Mustafa's government lost in a 78-34 vote, with three abstentions.

The government has been hobbled by its inability to secure a parliamentary majority to back a border demarcation deal with neighbouring Montenegro, despite pressure from the USA government.

Isa Mustafa and PDK leader Kadri Veseli, as well as some MPs from the former ruling coalition LDK-PDK, held separate meetings in the building of the Kosovo Assembly yesterday with the United States ambassador and the of the EU Office in Pristina.

Thaci's decision to make June 11 the date when Kosovars will elect their representatives to the 120-seat parliament came after a meeting with political leaders.

The opposition has been calling for an end to Mustafa's government for the last two years, mainly over the agreements Mustafa signed in Brussels in 2015 on border demarcation with Montenegro, which still needs parliamentary approval.

The opposition strongly opposes the deal, claiming that it gives to Montenegro several thousand hectares of land that has traditionally been used by Kosovo's shepherds.

Veseli posted a video message informally launching a parliamentary election campaign, blaming Mustafa for the no-confidence vote.

"Regret today's no-confidence vote of the Kosovo Assembly".

The speaker of Kosovo's parliament is supporting the collapse of the country's Cabinet in which his political party was a partner. While it has been recognized by 114 countries, Serbia, Russia, China, India, Iran and European Union members Spain and Greece have not recognized Kosovo as an independent state.

The Front, composed of several parties with different stances on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and Russian Federation, has pledged that if it wins the next elections, it will revoke the sanctions imposed by Montenegro on Russian Federation over the annexation of Crimea, and will also revoke recognition of Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008.
