Trump administration delays Paris climate agreement decision

"We're going to cancel the Paris Climate Agreement and stop all payments of USA tax dollars to United Nations global warming programs", Trump said in a speech in North Dakota on the campaign trail in 2016.

No new date was given for the session, which aims to bring together President Donald Trump - who is flirting with pulling out of the agreement - with top climate and economic advisers.

Spicer said Trump has been meeting with his team "extensively" to discuss the issue, which has divided his top advisers as they weigh the ramifications of withdrawing from the carbon reduction agreement.

Another possible option for Trump, according to officials, is to remain within the agreement, but rework United States emissions targets.

Trump has promised to announce a decision before a Group of Seven summit at the end of May, but the White House official did not say when the meeting would be rescheduled.

As uncertainty mounted over the hard-fought pact's future under US President Donald Trump, China's leader Xi Jinping came to its defence.

The Trump administration postponed a meeting to discuss the Paris climate change agreement for the second time Tuesday, prompting suspicions of widening discord in the White House and fears that the USA will pull out.

Judge agrees to toss Aaron Hernandez's murder conviction
Prosecutors had argued that Hernandez forfeited his right to appeal when he made a "calculated" decision to take his own life. He was found hanging in his cell on April 19, just days after being acquitted of double-murder charges in a separate case.

His daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who are senior presidential advisers, as well as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson are in favor of remaining, while Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt and senior adviser Steve Bannon have urged Mr Trump to withdraw. Both men have this week pressed Trump to stay on board.

In a conversation Monday, Trump told French President-elect Emmanuel Macron he is "pondering" whether to remain in the Paris Climate Agreement, French Ambassador to the US Gerard Araud told CNN's Christiane Amanpour in Paris on Tuesday.

"President Macron emphasized the importance of the Paris Agreement".

Under the Paris Agreement, each participating country determines its own set of emissions targets and a plan to reach them.

The Obama administration pledged in 2015 to reduce USA carbon output by 26-28% by 2025, but the lynchpin of achieving that goal - closing coal-fired power plants - is under review by the Trump administration and is expected to be scaled back if not eliminated outright.

"Because of current debate in Washington, it could be that policies move more slowly but I am confident that the United States will continue to move in the right direction", he said.
