Mr Murray said there was still a possibility the one day match between Australia and England could be played at the new stadium.
The iconic WACA Ground will be an Ashes venue for the final time in December as the new stadium in Perth will not be ready in time for the third Test between Australia and England.
James Sutherland, Cricket Australia's chief executive, indicated the stadium could yet host the final instalment of the five-match ODI series between the arch rivals on 28 January but ruled out the vast majority of the men's and women's Big Bash seasons being played there.
"Well I guess it's good now we have some certainty around where the Perth Test match is going to be played this year as part of the Ashes series", Sutherland said in Perth.
"Nonetheless, there's lots to look forward to".
In a divided France, challenges await President-elect Macron
In his victory speech , Macron said he "will defend France, its vital interests, its image". "But they didn't know France". He now needs to win over the French people. "French voters have averted the catastrophe of a Marine Le Pen presidency".
The fourth match will be the traditional Boxing Day test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground beginning December 26, and the fifth starts in Sydney on January 4.
'Whilst Cricket Australia and the WACA understand there will be a level of disappointment with this news for fans, we know that a Perth Test match at the WACA Ground will still be an enormously anticipated event that will be played in front of capacity crowds.
Sutherland, however, said that there is a "very strong chance" for the January 28 one-day global between Australia and England to be played at the venue, while men's and women's Big Bash League games are expected to remain at the WACA Ground.
The Weekend West had reported in recent days that a senior government source confirmed there was "no chance" of the Ashes test match being played at the new facility. "The scheduled opening has always been the start of the 2018 AFL season and that is what we're working towards", the WA sport and recreation minister Mick Murray said.
The project also faces delays to the construction of a pedestrian foot bridge linking the stadium site to East Perth. Leading to this delay the match will now take place at WACA, Perth as confirmed by Cricket Australia on Wednesday.
