Zinedine Zidane described Cristiano Ronaldo as "unique" after his hat-trick in Real Madrid's 3-0 Champions League win over Atletico.

Monaco hosts Juventus in the first leg of the other semifinal on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo asked the Real Madrid fans to stop jeering him after his latest match-winning display, in a season when he has again been the target of the Bernabeu boo-boys. It was his easiest goal of the night, he controlled Lucas Vazquez's cross, then fired home.

"Now we have to try to do something impossible, but since we are called Atletico Madrid, it may be possible for us to do it". He had scored five in the two legs of the quarterfinals against Bayern Munich, including a hat trick in the second leg at the Bernabeu.

In a column for the BBC, the Manchester United veteran claimed that the pair must be on the list of candidates to be known as the greatest player ever.

Ronaldo opened his account on ten minutes, heading Casemiro's cross past Jan Oblak.

Ronaldo has now scored three more Champions League goals than Atletico have in their history with 103. It ended with 16 against four for Atletico.

"Then we had five or 10 hard minutes, but in the second half we were very effective, with few chances we scored two goals". We have not won anything yet, and I do not believe we will get too carried away.

Athletico Madrid had a good chance to level before half but Navas was up-to to the task. We still have the second leg.

There was, though, no controversy about Ronaldo's second goal with 17 minutes left as he lashed the ball in from the edge of the Atletico penalty area.

The crosstown rivals are meeting for the fourth consecutive time in the top European club competition.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone refuses to give up hope of reaching this season's Champions League final despite losing the first leg of their semi-final 3-0. Victory also kept Real alive to become the first side to retain the Champions League in 27 years.

The Argentine, however, has not given up on his team's chances yet.

The Real Madrid forward has been pacing himself, skipping games that he would have normally played in previous years, and is peaking at just the right time.

There is also the postponed meeting with Celta Vigo from back in February to squeeze in, which is scheduled to take place between the final matchdays of the campaign.
