In what is a massive setback to Pakistan, International Court of Justice has stayed the death sentence imposed by a Pakistani court on India's Kulbhushan Jadhav for spying, reports NDTV. Jadhav is an Indian national who was arrested in Pakistan suspicion of alleged espionage and sabotage activities against the country.
Pakistan claims its security forces had arrested Jadhav from the restive Balochistan province on March 3 past year after he reportedly entered from Iran. India has acknowledged Jadhav as a retired Indian Navy officer, but denied the allegation that he was in any way connected to the government. "The Applicant also points out that it learned about the death sentence against Mr. Jadhav from a press release", the statement said.
Pakistan has turned down 16 requests from India for consular access to Mr Jadhav. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs reached out to their Pakistani counterparts on multiple occasions, seeking consular access for Kulbhushan.

Pakistan claims Jadhav, who allegedly used the alias Hussein Mubarak Patel in Pakistan, was attached to the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
"We haven't seen, we haven't met (Jadhav)".
Responding on India's petition, the ICJ has forbidden Pakistan from hanging Kulbhushan Jadhav until The Hague conducts a detailed hearing on the matter. His mother of has filed an appeal at a higher court in Pakistan.
