A loud explosion hit close to the Damascus International Airport in Syria Thursday, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman declared to Israeli media "The next time the Syrians use their air defense systems against our planes we will destroy them without the slightest hesitation".
Damascus International Airport is reportedly a major conduit of Iranian arms bound for Hezbollah in Syria. Initial reports said the explosion was the result of an Israeli airstrike on a Hezbollah supply hub.
In Israel, Minister of Intelligence and Transportation Israel Katz declined to say whether his country carried out the strike.
"We are acting to prevent the transfer of sophisticated weapons from Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon by Iran", Katz told army radio. As per the media of Israel, they were storing weapons for the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
On January 13, Syria accused Israel of bombing Mazzeh air base in the western suburbs of the capital.

The U.S. has also attacked the Syrian regime directly, but President Trump hasn't signaled a willingness to get more involved.
Israeli analysts suggest that Hezbollah has a stockpile of over 100,000 rockets on Syrian soil.
