Trump will sign the executive order after a meeting with 15 farmers from across the country, including Zippy Duvall, the president of the American Farm Bureau; Bill Northey, the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture; and Lisa Johnson Billy, a farmer and former Oklahoma House member, CNN reported on Monday. He won election as Georgia's governor in 2003 and was reelected to a second term in 2006 with 58% of the vote.
"With his wide range of experience as a farmer, businessman, and governor, Secretary Perdue is well-positioned to lead the USDA in helping create more opportunity for US producers", said Smith.
"Sonny Perdue is the first Southern ag secretary in more than 20 years", Commissioner Quarles said. He is not associated with the food company Perdue or the poultry producer Perdue Farms. President Donald Trump signed the Agricultural Executive order, Tuesday. To calm them down, he assured them he will advocate for rural America and he promised to reach out to Democrats.
Still, Mr Perdue, 70, is getting a late start on the job. Trump nominated him just two days before his inauguration, and then the nomination was delayed for weeks as the administration prepared his ethics paperwork.
The National Corn Growers Association is "ready to partner with Secretary Perdue and the rest of the Administration to build a better farm economy", the organization said on its website.

When Perdue was nominated as Agriculture Secretary in January, the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) issued the following statement by Pamela G. Bailey, President and CEO of GMA, "As Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue's agricultural business background and experience as governor will serve the US well". Secretary Perdue will play a critical role working on issues important to the fresh fruit and vegetable industry including the 2018 Farm Bill debate, immigration reform, research, trade, and nutrition. Prior to that, he was in the Georgia Senate for 10 years. Trump also proposed cuts to the State Department and Environmental Protection Agency.
Many local farmers say they are positive about how global trade could look in the future.
South Dakota U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem also is a Perdue supporter, saying he's a close family friend and she can attest to his character.
