US, Mexico, Canada Bid Together to Host Tournament

According to FIFA's timeline, a decision is supposed to come in May of 2020.

"I really thank Sunil's open mindedness and U.S. Soccer's open mindedness and Mexico's open mindedness", Canadian Soccer Association President Victor Montagliani said. According to Sports Illustrated, the USA joined with its neighbors due to FIFA's concerns that President Trump's immigration restrictions could create problems for traveling players and fans. The US will host every match from the quarter-finals and the following rounds.

The 2002 World Cup is the only other tournament to be played in multiple countries (Japan and South Korea).

"We don't believe that sport can solve all the issues of the world", he said. All matches from the quarter-finals onwards would be in the USA which hosted in 1994.

The U.S., Canada and Mexico have settled on an unprecedented answer to that question: just combine forces. The 2018 World Cup is scheduled to be in Russian Federation, while the 2022 World Cup is slated for Qatar, human rights violations be damned. The new format will feature 16 groups of three with the top two from each pool advancing to a 32-team knockout.

That is three years later than originally scheduled because of corruption allegations surrounding the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russian Federation and Qatar.

The United States also burnished its credentials as a major tournament host with last year's 16-team Copa America Centenario, which culminated in Chile's victory over Argentina in front of 82,026 fans at the final in NY.

Cavs survive Pacers late to go up 2-0
Earlier in the game Love had taken a forearm to the face, the result of George trying to use Love as a launch pad. "We needed it. Love immediately brutalized Stephenson and other Pacers wings to the tune of 10 consecutive points on five straight possessions.

The next step is submitting the bid to Federation Internationale de Football Association at its coming congress in Bahrain. "Starting today, the United States gets back control of its borders", Trump said. Everything from deciding which cities and stadiums will host matches - all three countries will have to decide how many matches go to each nation and who gets the glamour matches like the opener and final - to the transportation, scheduling and infrastructure will have to be determined.

If North American is named the host site, it would mark the first time that soccer's showcase event was hosted by more than two countries.

Cities like Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver would work well given they are close to other major US cities and so could limit travel in group play. By comparison, the 2014 World Cup featured 12 venues in Brazil. In an unprecedented investment, Qatar is projected to spend more than $200 billion for the 2022 World Cup.

"We haven't discussed any of that", Montagliani said.

Canada has only ever qualified for one men's World Cup - in 1986. "I would assume this would be the same", he said.

"The general parameters of this bid are a World Cup of 80 games".
