After Ferrari pitted the German early, Mercedes attempted to pit Bottas and Hamilton together after the Safety Car was deployed. We made the call. "Ferrari did a great job today". Then I lost position at the start.

Vettel won in Australia, finished second to Hamilton in China and was then first again in Bahrain - a race he won with Red Bull in 2012 and 2013. It was his 11th podium.

"That said, we are well aware we have a long road ahead and know that if we want to get to the most important finish-line of all, we can not stint on our commitment and focus for a second". "I was oversteering all through the race".

Hamilton and Bottas rounded out the podium for Mercedes with the pole victor finishing 20 seconds down on Vettel thus failing to convert his maiden F1 pole into a win. "I don't know what to say".

Hamilton apologised to Mercedes for damaging his own chances by earning a five-second penalty for deliberately slowing Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo as they pitted for fresh tyres under a safety vehicle early in the race. Exclusively my fault. Then you get the time lost in the pit lane. "Losing points for the team is definitely painful".

This was Vettel's 44th race victory taking his overall championship points to 68, seven points more than Hamiltons's.

The day proved to be hard for Red Bull Racing.

It was 24 degrees Celsius (75 Fahrenheit) with a refreshing breeze when the race started at 6 p.m. local time (1500 GMT) and finished under floodlights.

Valtteri Bottas says despite Mercedes holding an advantage in qualifying trim he feels Ferrari now have the stronger race pace, but has warned it could all change next time out in Russian Federation.

Vettel then chose to pit at the end of the tenth lap, allowing him to get out from behind Bottas. Last year Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were held to a set of "rules of engagement" written after their collision in Spain, but the team rarely had wins come under threat from other teams.

Verstappen was helpless as he watched his auto go straight on at turn 4 and into the barriers at low speed and out of the race.

Ferrari Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel of Germany celebrates after winning Bahrain Grand Prix on April 17, 2017.

Bottas not only lost out to race victor Sebastian Vettel but also Lewis Hamilton and was twice asked to move over for his Mercedes team-mate who showed superior pace.

There was some frantic action behind the leaders, with Fernando Alonso battling it out in midfield. "I see the point, but still it's tough when you're on pole and trying to win a race".

"I just saw the video, it's ridiculous", slammed Stroll of Sainz.
