Now that O'Reilly has been ousted at the network, Carlson has quickly risen to become the network's new prominent anchor with his show moving into the 8pm slot previously occupied by The O'Reilly Factor.

The National Geographic channel has aired a series of adaptations of O'Reilly books, including "Killing Reagan" and "Killing Kennedy".

Some analysts believe that James and Lachlan Murdoch - the sons of 21st Century Fox executive chairman Rupert Murdoch - made the call on O'Reilly to change the Ailesian culture at the network and to cement their control following his departure.

O'Reilly said in a statement it is "tremendously disheartening" to leave due to what he called "completely unfounded claims".

Eight days earlier, The New York Times disclosed O'Reilly and 21st Century Fox had settled sexual harassment complaints against him for $13 million.

To the contrary, Fox announced that it was filling the vacuum left by O'Reilly's departure with Tucker Carlson, another combative host whose specialty appears to be making guests he disagrees with squirm.

Others figure that O'Reilly's firing won't be a sticking point for most Fox viewers. After a thorough and careful review of allegations against him, the Company and Bill O'Reilly have agreed that Mr. O'Reilly will not return to the Fox News Channel. Eric Bolling, who had been a co-host of "The Five", is taking the 5 p.m. hour by himself, though his new show will not debut until May 1.

Rounding out the Fox prime-time lineup, "Hannity" remains at 10 p.m. EDT.

Fox News has dropped one of its best-known presenters, Bill O'Reilly, following accusations of sexual harassment.

Twenty-First Century Fox Inc has parted ways with star cable news host Bill O'Reilly following allegations of sexual harassment, the company said on Wednesday.

Wali said dozens of other villagers also came out of homes and later he went near the border, where he met with other residents. On Friday, the village was swarming with Afghan and global troops, as helicopters and other aircraft flew overhead.

O'Reilly has been on vacation and was originally scheduled to return on Monday.

O'Reilly lost his job on the same day he was photographed in Rome shaking the hand of Pope Francis. The network is not reliant on specific personalities, he argued.

An internal memo was sent to Fox News Channel employees Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.

O'Reilly's show generated $446 million in advertising revenue between 2014 and 2016, according to Kantar Media.

O'Reilly and his attorneys have denied the claims have merit.

Vatican spokesman Greg Burke confirmed O'Reilly was in the VIP section for the pope's Wednesday appearance.

Francis always swings by the VIP seats at the end of his audience for a quick round of handshakes.

"By ratings standards, Bill O'Reilly is one of the most accomplished TV personalities in the history of cable news", the company said.

The New York Times reports that an African-American woman - who remains anonymous - came forward this week with allegations of her own, saying O'Reilly would at various times grunt like a "wild boar" at her desk, leer at her and refer to her as "hot chocolate". On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal, a newspaper owned by the Murdochs, wrote that the company was preparing to cut ties with O'Reilly.
