Just hours before the shootings on Tuesday, police published a news release warning that Muhammad was armed and risky and wanted for the murder last week of a white motel security guard, 25-year-old Carl Williams. Mark James Gassett, a 37-year-old from Fresno, died in a neighborhood, and 58-year-old David Martin Jackson of Fresno was shot outside a charity office and died at a hospital.
The final victim was shot dead in the auto park of a charity building.

Williams was a supervisor for Toys "R" Us who was at his second job at a Motel 6 when Muhammad shot him multiple times after an argument, police and the mother said. The suspect, who was armed with a revolver, then dropped shell casings and reloaded his gun before he set off to Catholic Charities on North Fulton Street in Fresno, Dyer said. He also allegedly shot at a 59-year-old man, but missed, and pointed his gun at a group of Hispanic women, including a 4-year-old, but didn't pull the trigger. Another 59-year-old white man was shot at but not struck.
"A total of 16 rounds were fired according to our gunshot detection system, and all of those occurred in approximately a minute to a minute and a half", said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
Two Latina women and a child crossed paths with Muhammad but were luckier. Muhammad pointed the gun at them as they sat in their vehicle trying to flee, but didn't shoot.
Muhammad also has a criminal history in Sacramento dating back to 1997 when he was arrested for making criminal threats.
Muhammad, 39, was arrested shortly after the rampage.
