He was subsequently transported to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. ET by a physician at the hospital.

Baez said he has requested that authorities "conduct a transparent and thorough investigation", and that his own law firm will also conduct its own examination.

This much is clear: In his final days, even as a convicted murderer, Aaron Hernandez didn't come across as haunted. "Those who love and care about him are heartbroken and determined to find the truth surrounding his untimely death". The same goes for the families of Daniel de Abreau and Safiro Furtado, who had been pursuing wrongful death civil suits against Hernandez.

In April 2014, Ortiz and Wallace were also charged in Lloyd's slaying.

He was found guilty in April 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Hernandez was visibly emotional when Friday's verdicts were read, embracing his attorneys.

Hernandez and his fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, have a 4-year-old daughter. Cameras caught Hernandez blowing kisses and waving to his girl.

But the Patriots released him in 2013, shortly after he was arrested in the killing of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

Facebook hasn't confirmed any of these reports, however, so everything amounts to just rumours at this point. Virtual reality is seriously gaining steam, and Facebook is a major player in that happening.

A lawyer who represents Lloyd's mother said she's moving forward with a wrongful-death lawsuit against Hernandez's estate.

Aaron Hernandez at a court appearance in North Attleboro, Massachusettson August 22, 2013. Surveillance footage from Hernandez's home showed him holding what appeared to be a gun and a joint discovered near Lloyd's body had both his and Hernandez's DNA. His conviction was being reviewed by the state Supreme Judicial Court.

- February 5, 2012: Hernandez is a key player for the Patriots as they roll undefeated through the regular season. Hernandez then became the first Gator to win the John Mackey Award, given annually to the NCAA's best tight end.

It was the last act in the downfall of an athlete who once seemed to have everything, including a five-year $40 million contract extension, and threw it all away.

The Patriots, the Super Bowl champions, are scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday.

"The Massachusetts State Police are on scene and the investigation continues".

The prospect of a new trial, Baez said, brought into play what had been an unfathomable scenario - his client someday walking out of prison a free man. Aaron Hernandez, the attorney said, was "one step closer to being reunited with his family".
