Steve Stephens, who has been the center of a manhunt since Sunday, fatally shot himself in Erie, Pa., Pennsylvania State Police confirmed over Twitter.

Stephens, who executed Godwin in cold blood while broadcasting on Facebook Live, turned his weapon on himself Tuesday after a brief police pursuit in Pennsylvania.

While they waited for police to arrive, the attendant stalled Stephens by giving him his chicken nuggets but not his fries, saying a new batch had to be made, Cleveland19 and TMZ report. Stephens said in a separate video on Facebook on Sunday that he had already killed a dozen others.

Debbie Godwin added: "It's bad enough that you kill him but you record the killing on Facebook?". As the vehicle was spinning out of control from the PIT maneuver, Stephens pulled a pistol and shot himself in the head. His family says they have forgiven Stephens, and they are sad he took his own life.

"When I picked up the phone she was screaming", the daughter said.

He then gets out of the vehicle, and says a woman's name to the confused Godwin, "Joy Lane".

WSFA reported the family found out about Godwin's death after receiving calls from family members about the Facebook video.

Lane spoke about the ordeal and what her life has been like for the past 48 hours after Stephens said her name in the disturbing video, according to the Washington Post. "I can't believe I'm never going to talk to my father no more", she said through tears.

A nationwide manhunt in the US came to an end Tuesday when a man accused of posting a murder video on Facebook shot himself after a short police chase, authorities said.

The station says it was enough time for police to catch up to him.

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg pledged on Tuesday that his company would do all it could to prevent postings of incidents like Sunday's fatal shooting in Cleveland, which was visible on the social media site for two hours.

"I want to officially announce that the search for Steve Stephens has ended", he said.
