What: Facebook's annual developer F8 has kicked off today at San Jose's McEnery Convention Center and continues tomorrow with meetups around the world. And like the previous iterations, Facebook will showcase different updates on its products done together with its developer and entrepreneur partners.

Earlier, Zuckerberg had said that Facebook was developing artificial intelligence to better flag content on the site.

But with 1.9 billion users, Facebook has a much larger audience than Snapchat. VP of messaging David Marcus even alluded to the trouble his platform has had with bots during his keynote speech.

The other new tool is AR Studio. For example, basketball fans can add a sports bot in their group thread and this thread will give live scores and news about basketball.

Meanwhile, the Facebook CEO took a moment to offer his and the company's condolences to the family of Robert Godwin, Sr., whose alleged killer posted a video of his murder on the social network and then confessed in a live video. Expect Facebook to discuss this during F8.

Zuckerberg also showed off a number of new ways users will be able to tweak their photos, for instance, adding sharks that appear to swim around a cereal bowl, literally livening up one's Facebook feed. The company was rocked by accusations that it had shaped the debate around the U.S. presidential election by not doing enough to stop the spread of fake news. And while they haven't yet introduced the ability to upload your consciousness directly into their server, they have a "beta" program where Facebook users become avatars who meet and interact in a digital Facebook environment.

Guentzel scores hat trick for Penguins
The problem though was that it was clear right away that Werenski was bleeding and the Penguins continued to control the puck. Calvert didn't want to talk about the play Monday, but he did say it wasn't payback for anything that happened in the game.

Since Facebook bought Oculus in 2014, it has been trying to step up its game in virtual reality development, especially its integration with its social media platforms. At the Facebook offices, AR has been used to create art, such as a seemingly blank wall can have lovely art on it when viewed in AR.

There are eight different VR-related sessions at this year's conference, which represents nearly 20% of all the breakout sessions. However, in addition to Spaces and the focus on augmented reality, Facebook showed some love to the developers.

He also shared what future AR innovations could look like.

This year's F8 will be the first after Zuckerberg announced his 10-year roadmap for the company.

Instagram made news this month when its Instagram Stories reached 200 million users, surpassing Snapchat, the very app from which it copied most of its features.

Facebook is launching its AR foundation today, but only in closed beta testing for selected developers, Zuckerberg said.
