The House of Commons on Wednesday will vote whether to approve the early election.
Theresa May is to make a statement in Downing Street at 11.15am after Cabinet. While the Conservatives polled between 38 percent and 46 percent, the Labour party polled around 23 to 29 percent in the opinion polls.
She said division in Westminster could undermine the government's ability to secure the best deal for Brexit.
Ms May called for an election during an impromptu statement delivered from the steps of Downing Street. It is not going to happen.
What is a snap General Election? An election isn't actually due until 2020 but, if approved, the vote will be held just a week before France's legislative elections, scheduled to begin on 11 June.
Under the legislation, a motion for a new vote ahead of schedule needs to be carried by two thirds of the 650 seats in the House of Commons, including vacant seats.
