Leeward Islands batsman Kieran Powell is in line to play his first Test in almost three years after being recalled to the West Indies squad for the first match against Pakistan at Sabina Park beginning on Friday.

Brooks added 34 with Singh before left-arm spinner Muhammad Asghar trapped him lbw to leave the President's XI on 193 for four.

Shimron Hetmyer and Vishal Singh have also been included in the squad for potential debuts.

With some fresh faces in the squad, the West Indies made a decision to drop Marlon Samuels, Darren Bravo, Leon Johnson, Carlos Brathwaite and Jomel Warrican.

West Indies President XI scored 311-5 against Pakistan on the first day of the three-day tour match at Trelawny Stadium on Saturday.

For Powell, this marks a return to the Test stage for the first time since 2014.

Powell was selected because the panel "felt a need to fast -track him through our "A" team programme a year ago".

Child, mother strangled to death by man
A Gwinnett County man is in jail, charged with choking to death a 2-year-old boy and his mother on Easter Sunday. The incident happened while the homeowner was outside working on a vehicle in the driveway, Washington said.

He had a modest Under-19 World Cup with the bat previous year but has plundered 496 runs in the Regional four-day championship with four half-centuries to force his way into the selection frame. Powell, Singh and Hetmyer performed well in the three-day tour match against Pakistan, and that is the reason they have been picked up in the team.

However, his heavy scoring last season when he finished with 712 runs at average of 50 with three hundreds, coupled with a magnificent 161 against Sri Lanka A in Pallekele last October, worked in his favour.

"We are happy that Kieran is once again available as an option for us to open the batting", Browne said.

The ascension of Hetmyer coincides with the continuing impasse between Bravo and the WICB.

3rd Test: May 10-14: West Indies v Pakistan at Windsor Park, Roseau.

Also dropped from the previous Test squad against Pakistan were Carlos Brathwaite and Jomel Warrican. He is now at the IPL and West Indies coach Stuart Law said he had been left out of the ODI squad ahead of the Test series to work on improving his fitness and bowling.
