Facebook's Technical Program Manager, Shabnam Shaik, expressed her views in a release on the changes within the technical system, saying, "By constantly improving our techniques, we also aim to reduce the financial incentives for spammers who rely on distribution to make their efforts worthwhile".
It's not clear exactly how many accounts were purged.
Stating that Prime minister Sheikh Hasina, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and many other politicians are being demeaned through such fake Facebook accounts, Tarana said it is when this came to notice that the government organised a meeting with the Facebook authority and requested a crackdown of fake accounts.
Facebook said the campaign aimed to trick people into connecting as friends they would later target with spam.
In a blog post, the company announced it had identified numerous "inauthentic likes and comments" on popular pages run by publishers, and is removing them.
However, Facebook noticed that this time, the spam accounts would simply interact with a few Pages, and then lie dormant.

A spokeswoman for Facebook in Sydney said she was unable to give the total number of accounts removed globally.
The tens of thousands of accounts used by the spam operation were in addition to 30,000 French accounts suspended last week.
