Joe Johnson drained the game-winning shot at the buzzer and the Utah Jazz shocked the Los Angeles Clippers, 97-95, in Game 1 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs at Staples Center on Saturday night.
Gobert had to leave less than 20 seconds into the contest after colliding with Clipper player Luc Mbah a Moute.
The Clippers now have a tough job on their hands if they are to turn this series around as Utah is a hard place to win and they ended the regular season with the third-best defence. You have a young, hungry Jazz team, playing not only to be taken seriously but perhaps for the future of the franchise, as the result of their playoff run might ultimately sway Gordon Hayward's decision to return.
With potentially six games left to be played, Gobert has a chance to come back and impact the series when it still matters.
While it is still not known how long Gobert might be out, we now know the details of his injury, as Shams Charania of The Vertical reports that Gobert suffered a hyperextension and bone bruise of his left knee.
Forward Derrick Favors entered the game for Gobert, who leaned heavily on teammates as he made his way to the locker room.
The Utah Jazz (1-0) are up on the Los Angeles Clippers (0-1) in their best of seven, first round series of the 2017 NBA Playoffs.
Rays' Longoria hits 1st home run of new major league season
Longoria said catcher Derrek Norris is building a rapport with Archer. "I think that really swung the game in our favor". Pineda did allow 27 homers, and opponents hit.325 against him with two outs. "Just couldn't seem to get the third out".
The man in question was Joe Marcus Johnson, professional scorer, manufacturer of point, and the National Basketball Association player who has drained more buzzer-beaters than any other over the last decade.
Making their first playoff appearance in five years, the Jazz outshot the Clippers and narrowly controlled the paint, owning a 42-40 edge. He led the league in blocks at 2.64 per game, defensive real plus-minus (5.99) and led the Jazz in player efficiency rating (23.31). In one play, the very reason the Jazz coveted Johnson last summer was exemplified. Especially if they were to lose to a Utah team without Gobert - that speaks volumes.
DeMar DeRozan led Toronto with 27 points, and Serge Ibaka had 19 points and 14 rebounds.
The Clippers are 18-3 against the Jazz since 2011-12 - including 9-1 at home - their best record against a Western Conference opponent during that span.
"We've got to be better", Paul said. The conditions for his eighth on Saturday night (no other player has more than four) were favorable.
Johnson's buzzer-beater was part of a huge performance off the bench.
