MLA Says, Hema Malini Drinks Daily

"Denying the reasoning of alcoholism behind farmers" suicide, Kadu had said Hema Malini drinks everyday but she does not commit suicide.Bacchu Kadu, also known as Omprakash Babarao Kadu, has been surrounded by controversies in the past as well. Further hitting at farmers and their drinking habits, he added, "Not just Hema Malini, 75 per cent MLAs and MPs drink". Ladu who finds excessive alcoholism as the main reason behind farmers suicide said, "If drinking alcohol is the reason for farmer suicide then there are many actors who drink daily".

A Maharashtra member of legislative assembly stirred up the hornet's nest with his controversial remark on yesteryear's popular Bollywood actress-turned-politician, Hema Malini. "Professor Swamninathan always said that farmers' produce is increasing but not their income", he said. "Why hasn't she committed suicide?" The government does not want to do anything. He was attempting to get the Centre's attention on Vidarbha farmers' suicides.In 2012, he went on a fast to highlight farmers' woes and managed to get the attention of the chief minister Prithviraj Chavan within four days.

"I was referring to the statements made by some people from the government that alcohol is the reason why farmers are committing suicide in the context of the loan waiver".

However, Kadu's comments haven't gone down well with the saffron brigade. "Malini is a well-known figure across the globe, apart from being an MP".

Reports suggest 200 farmers have committed suicide only in the Marathwada region this year.
