Two days after McLaren announced that Fernando Alonso would give the Monaco Grand Prix a miss, the team have found a replacement.

Many in Formula One can't believe that former champion Fernando Alonso want to drive in this year's Indianapolis 500 instead of the Grand Prix of Monaco.

Alonso will skip the Monaco Grand Prix _ crown jewel event of the FIA Formula One World Championship _ to compete on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in the Verizon IndyCar Series' marquee race.

The McLaren driver said what was already looking to be a difficult race will only be harder from 15th on the grid and with an engine he will not be able to try before the start.

"I've won the race before, in 2009, and it's one of my all-time favourite racetracks", he said.

"And Zak has this problem".

Two derailments in as many weeks have caused inconvenience and delay for hundreds of thousands of NJ Transit commuters. Be Civil - It's OK to have a difference in opinion but there's no need to be a jerk.

With Alonso ending up 16th, just ahead of Vandoorne in 17th, Hasegawa remains confident the cars will still make the finish line. "I think he needs to see a psychiatrist personally!"

Indy Car racing has a reputation as a considerably riskier series than Formula One, with cars running nose-to-tail at around 240 miles per hour.

We also have time to touch upon Alonso's Andretti teammates, what his chances are in the big race, and what a fascinating storyline this has added to the 2017 F1 season. I think until the last corner it was half a second better than my Q1 time, then I went on the throttle and there was an issue in the power unit.

While drivers such as Lewis Hamilton have supported the Spaniard on this endeavour, Red Bull boss Christian Horner seems to think that McLaren chief Zak Brown has lost his marbles. "He's going to get some testing in, he is studying Indianapolis".

Asked for his reaction to Horner's harsh comments, Brown said, "Fernando's not scared". But I think the lap was more or less the maximum possible - I don't think there was much more left in the auto. We think he's going to have a vehicle capable of running at the front, I think he will be extremely prepared and I think he's going to put on a good show.
