Chief Executive Elon Musk said Thursday said the company will unveil its first "Semi truck" in September in what appears to be yet another major product launch for the electric vehicle maker. Musk tweeted Thursday that a Tesla semi truck is just months away and work is ongoing on an electric pickup truck as well. "Both are in the early stages of development at Tesla and should be ready for unveiling next year", read the declaration of intention for both models issued last summer during Tesla's conference for Master Plan Part Deux.
Musk has said that by offering the Model 3, along with the Model S and Model X premium vehicles, it should be able to offer a future compact SUV and a pickup to cover most of the available consumer market. Musk said in February that the company was making progress on its semitruck. Shares rose 2.4% Thursday, to $304 - all of the gains came within an hour of Musk's tweet. Musk has over eight million followers on the platform, over six times more than Tesla's official Twitter account.
