The event was part of the run-up to the 105th anniversary of the birth of national founder Kim Il Sung, which falls on Saturday and is North Korea's most important holiday.
"If Trump were to follow through with his hints that he may give the order to shoot down any North Korean missile tests, it could lead to military escalation on both sides".
"Overall, I would say that the risk of war remains low but has increased due to the possibility of mistakes, loss of control of forces, and misunderstandings", he said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke to US President Donald Trump on the telephone overnight and has called for a peaceful resolution to the escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula.
Customs data in Beijing on Thursday showed that China's coal imports from North Korea plunged 51.6 percent in the first three months in 2017 from a year ago.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal published earlier Wednesday, Trump said he offered to ease trade pressure on China in exchange for help dealing with its unruly neighbor.
