On Friday, after President Donald Trump ordered a strike on a Syrian air base in response to Assad's chemical attack, Russian Federation said the United States had engaged in an "act of aggression against a sovereign state in violation of worldwide law" and warned that the act would harm relations between the two nations.
In an interview to air Sunday on CBS News' "Face The Nation," Tillerson was asked about further USA intervention in Syria while President Bashar al-Assad continues actions that have been condemned by the Trump administration as "morally reprehensible".
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson denied in an interview on CBS's Face the Nation that the strikes signaled an overhaul of American policy, saying its priority remained to defeat Islamic State militants in the Middle East. Trump's attack on Syria was reportedly in response to a deadly gas attack launched by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against his own people earlier in the week.
Turkey remains committed to a ceasefire in Syria, but Russian Federation must stop insisting that Bashar al-Assad should remain in office, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday.
The UK Government said it "fully supported" President Trump's action, though Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev warned the USA strike came "within an inch" of sparking military clashes with his country's forces.
The Kremlin said in a statement Rouhani also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone. "The United States will no longer wait for Assad to use chemical weapons without any consequences", Haley said. Mevlut Cavusoglu said Saturday that the USA intervention was only "cosmetic" unless it removes Assad from power.
Assad allies say USA attack on Syria air base crosses "red lines"
Iran has provided crucial military and economic assistance to Mr Assad throughout Syria's six-year civil war. Mr Assad accused the United States of trying to boost the morale of "terror groups" in Syria.
On Friday, senior US military officials were looking more closely at possible Russian involvement in the poison attack.
If ceasefire zones in Syria are ultimately created, "we will have the conditions to begin a useful political process", he said. The drone returned late in the day as citizens were going to a nearby hospital for treatment.
"Why have you attacked the Syrian army which is at war with terrorists?"
Syria: What led to the USA airstrikes?
The kingdom is among the most vehement opponents of Assad and supports Sunni rebel groups fighting to oust him. USA officials noted that the timing of the strike had the possible added benefit of signaling to China that Trump is willing to make good on his threat to act alone to stop North Korea's nuclear pursuits if Beijing doesn't exert more pressure on Pyongyang.
The chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun on Tuesday triggered a US missile attack two days later that struck a Syrian air base in central Syria killing nine people. Not everyone was cheering in Washington, where the president's decision to act without congressional authority angered a mix of libertarian Republicans, Democrats and the far right.
