Top two aides to British PM May quits

The election was called by UK Prime Minister Theresa May in order to unify the parliament ahead of the Brexit talks with Brussels.

Indeed it's said apart from her husband, Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill, were the only people she listened to.

In a statement after returning from Buckingham Palace, where she received the Queen's permission to form a government, May shrugged off a growing backlash in the Conservative Party, and said she would provide the "certainty" the country needed, The Guardian reported.

She said any changes to her personal team would be for another day after colleagues criticised the way May ran the campaign.

The party said Saturday that Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill have quit.

"In particular, I regret the decision not to include in the manifesto a ceiling as well as a floor in our proposal to help meet the increasing cost of social care", Timothy stated in reference to the notorious "dementia tax" fiasco which severely damaged the Conservative campaign.

Further divisions within the party arose on Saturday when Mrs May's former communications director claimed her closest advisors fomented a "toxic" environment in Downing Street.

Sky News anchor Adam Bolton read out a text message she had sent to him live on air after he mentioned the health of the prime minister, who has diabetes.

Thursday's election, widely predicted to be a decisive victory for the governing Conservative Party, ended instead in a net loss of 13 seats and the loss of overall control of Parliament, while their rivals the Labour Party achieved a net gain of 30. The Democratic Unionist Party is a socially conservative, pro-British party known for opposing abortion and marriage equality.

London's neutrality in Northern Ireland is key to the delicate balance of power in the province once plagued by decades of unrest.

But Conservative backbenchers have openly questioned the proposed deal, voicing concerns over the DUP's record on equality and reproductive rights for women.

Chief Whip Gavin Williamson is in Belfast to begin formal talks on a deal.

Sinn Fein Northern Ireland leader Michelle O'Neill accused the DUP of betraying the interests of the people of Northern Ireland in its agreement with the Conservative government.

But some within the party are calling for her to go.

She has kept her five senior ministers in their positions, though few of them have publicly backed her since election night.

The 10 DUP MPs would provide vital support to Mrs May after her majority was wiped out as the snap election gamble backfired, leaving her with 318 seats.

She said No10 operated in a "pretty dysfunctional" way in her ten months there.

The survey asked members: "Should Theresa May announce her resignation as party leader, thus triggering a leadership contest?"

The Daily Telegraph reported that aides for Ms Davidson were working on a deal that would see the Scottish party split from the United Kingdom party.
