Iran guards: US, Saudis involved in Tehran attacks

These terrorists were affiliated to Wahabi and Takfiri groups who joined Daesh terrorist group overseas and were red handed in the crimes of the terrorist group in Mosul of Iraq and Raqqah in Syria.

The terrorist attacks in Tehran, for which the Islamic State quickly claimed responsibility, mark a risky new twist in an already volatile and violent region.

The statement only released the first names of the terrorists and said that their last names were being withheld due to "certain social and security considerations".

The state-run IRNA news agency reported the increase Thursday, citing Ahmad Shojaei, the head of the country's forensic center.

On Thursday, Iran's Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said investigators were working to determine whether Saudi Arabia had a role Wednesday's attacks but said it was too soon to say if that was the case.

Trump said "states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote".

Mohammad Javad Zarif called the comments "repugnant" and accused the USA of supporting terror.

The minister added that Washington's allies, including Saudi Arabia, with whom Trump signed a multi-billion dollar arms agreement, are the real sponsors of terrorism.

Meanwhile, another attack took place at the Imam Khomeini Shrine.

Both sites are revered symbols for the country, one of its founder and the other because it represents what the country describes as its participatory government - in sharp contrast to the hereditary monarchies of its main regional rivals across the Persian Gulf.

"We grieve and pray for the innocent victims of the terrorist attacks in Iran, and for the Iranian people, who are going through such challenging times".

The US statement of solidarity with the attack's victims is notable because of the deep distrust between the US and Iran. They've argued the deal only delayed Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons and failed to allow the kind of inspections of its atomic sites that would guarantee Tehran was not cheating.

IS, which controls territory in Syria and Iraq, had carried on attacks on Saudi security forces as well as deadly bombings and shootings that target the kingdom's Shi'ites in the past.

Iran blamed the Wednesday attacks on Saudi Arabia, though no link has been established.

One man, recovering in a hospital bed, told state TV he was waiting to meet an MP when the shooting began.

As the parliament attack unfolded, gunmen and suicide bombers also struck outside Khomeini's mausoleum on Tehran's southern outskirts.

Trump's statement is "counter-productive and further narrows the opportunity for engagement between the USA and Iran on countering a common enemy", said Ellie Geranmayeh, senior fellow with the European Council on Foreign Relations.

"The country has just suffered from two significant terrorist attacks after electing a moderate government with 57 percent of the vote", she said.
